바르토메우 마리, 국립현대미술관장

국립현대미술관은 그동안 8,100여 점이 넘는 소장품을 활용한 다양한 전시를 통해 한국 미술의 흐름을 보여주고 관객들이 미술을 가깝게 접할 수 있는 기회를 제공해 왔습니다. 국립현대미술관 과천에서 개최되는 '소장품 특별전 균열 Ⅱ'는 2017년에 개최된 '소장품특별전 균열 Ⅰ'(2017.4.18.-2018.4.29)의 후속 전시입니다. 예술가들이 기존의 체계와 사고를 끊임없이 의심하고 익숙한 것을 낯설게 만들면서 추구했던 목표를 '균열(龜裂)'이라고 한다면, 이번 전시에서는 한국미술사의 다양한 맥락에서 드러나는 '균열'의 구체적인 양상을 '현실'과 '이상'이라는 두 가지 주제를 통해 살펴보고자 합니다.

국립현대미술관은 향후에도 미술관 소장품을 중심으로 한국미술의 흐름과 맥을 잡아가는 일을 지속해 나갈 것입니다. 이번 전시를 위해 귀한 작품을 대여해 주시고 설치를 위해 아낌없이 시간을 내주신 작가분들께 진심으로 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 아울러 본 전시를 준비하느라 애써주신 미술관 직원 여러분들과 관게자 여러분들의 노고에도 감사의 마음을 전합니다.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, has provided opportunities for the public to get up close and personal with art, representing Korean art trends through various exhibitions showcasing more than 8,100 works from its collection. Cracks in the Concrete Ⅱ from the MMCA Collection at MMCA Gwacheon is a sequel exhibition to Cracks in the Concrete from the MMCA Collection held April 18, 2017, to April 28, 2018. If the previous exhibition defined 'cracks in the concrete' as artistic attempts to question the existing system and paradigm, defamiliarizing the familiar, this exhibition examines specific forms of 'cracks' and 'ideals' found in various contexts of Korean art history.

This exhibition offers curatorial interpretations of Korean contemporary art and its trajectory, and in order to further elaborate on the exhibition theme, a portion of the works on display have been rented from outside the MMCA collection. Viewers will be able to experience diverse forms of art through which the artists experimented with the ideas of society, culture, and history in the context of post-20th century Korea.

With the museum collection as its source, the MMCA will continue to fully embrace the progresses and spirit of Korean art. I would lite to extend my heartfelt thanks to the artists who have lent and installed valuable works for this exhibition, and also to the staff who have poured their efforts into its preparation.
